Jeremy Szopinski

Jeremy Szopinski has exhibited at many venues in the midwest and nationally, including Woodward Gallery, the Soo Visual Arts Center, the Phipps Center for the Arts, Speedboat Gallery and the Duluth Art Institute. He has been a finalist for the Jerome Emerging Artist Grant, is adjunct faculty at the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, MN, worked as the senior letterpress printer at Studio On Fire in Minneapolis, and has painted murals. He graduated in 1998 from the College of Visual Arts, in St. Paul, and completed his MFA in painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 2010.

I’m fascinated by the mystical space of El Greco and the violent drama of Caravaggio. Some figures are discernible while others dissolve into color and mark. There are often bodies on the ground. These figures suggest violence and religious ecstasy, belief and doubt.
