He Dreams We’re Getting a Divorce

Wakes to find me
outside the trailer
listening to night:
locusts
crickets
trucks

A billboard casts
amorphous light,
my eyes squint
into the black glow

I dream
of someone
bursting
out of darkness
how nice it would feel
to disappear
to not have a choice

He asks if
I’m okay

I stare towards
the billboard
selling car insurance
or the Indianapolis zoo
or 2-for-1 burgers

I tell him to go
back to sleep,
cup my hands
around the light

How close
it seems
